 CODY
As one of the lucky pups released from a medical research facility, Cody had spent 8 years of his life within the confines of a lab. He clearly was very well cared for – just the right weight, with a beautiful shiny coat and a non-stop happy, inquisitive expression.
Originally I was not slated to be “Jaws” foster mom but as fate would have it, he wound up with me and made himself right at home, capturing my heart with his sweet disposition. He fit into my life and my home as if he had always been there. I renamed him Cody because one of my favorite places is Cody, Wyoming. With its wide open spaces and great blue sky I thought the name fitting for a little fellow who would be spending plenty of time in the great outdoors exploring new sights, sounds and smells. Fresh air, clouds slowly passing overhead, gentle bubbling streams and green pastures (Ok – that’s a stretch since I have a little pond and only half an acre but you get my meaning) – all of these things would be new to him and what a joy it would be to watch him experience them each day, step by baby step!
Cody had lots of hurdles to pass over – he’d never used stairs, never been in a car, never seen a bird! He knew nothing about noise, people, treats, toys, snuggling, getting kisses, etc. At first he was scared of the slightest quick movement but he’s proven to be a trooper! Only 5 months later he flies up and down the steps of my home, navigates through the doggie door, is fully housetrained, plays with and welcomes each new foster dog that comes in with his little tail wagging!
When I first brought Cody home he constantly needed reassurance – he’d sit on the floor pawing my leg until I picked him up (Smart dog). Now he is independent enough to excuse himself when tired and I’ll find him curled up in the center of my bed snoring away! What a great time he is having! And let me mention – it’s a queen sized bed but fit for a KING!
With winter coming Cody has been the lucky recipient of some snazzy new duds. A friend of ours, MJ made him his very own reversible coat – embroidered with his name on it, no less. In the snowy weather he waits patiently at the back door for me to put it on him to go out on “walkies”. He thinks he’s in heaven – he sniffs all sorts of scents, and loves meeting new people. As a foster mom for SOS Beagle Rescue, my house is often a revolving door of new folks and new friends - each adopter that comes in wants to take him home with them! He’s just a cuddlebug.
Cody, we’re honored that you joined us and we can never thank your “rescue mommy” Carolyn enough for brining you to enrich our lives. You’re both more special to me than you’ll ever know!

Cody gets regular veterinary care by 3 of the best DVMs around – Ken Werner, Nate Clark & Dave Brown.
Their meticulous treatment of all of my dogs is unparalleled and I can’t possibly thank them enough for all they’ve done for us. Codys getting ready for his New Year teeth cleaning and checkup – I think I’m more nervous than anything. Any time away from him is never fun because he’s inched himself right into my soul, sweet little boy of mine! His brother Tucker and sister Penny keep him company while I’m at work making money for MORE BONES. His little family of siblings keeps him busy in the nice weather running the yard, jumping in the pond (who said beagles hate water?). Life for my dogs is one big spoil-a-ton!
I don’t know what his life was like on the inside of the bars but I hope that I’ve done him justice by taking every new adventure with him, showing him how to live in a sometimes crazy world full of new things. I promised to keep him safe, love him as much as possible and I’m hoping he’s loving every minute of his new life of freedom!
1/1/08 - Update!!
Little Cody has been with me for over 2 years now and he's learned how to be a dog!! Each day he does something new that amazes. His latest "thing" is to put his little muzzle in the crook of my arm when I lift him to sit in my lap and just last week he rolled over and presented his tummy for rubs. I was more than happy to oblige him - with a face like his how could I ever say no?
Cody is a champ now at the doggie door and he flys up and down the steps and takes leash walks whenever the weather allows - just too darned cute!!!
I'm proud to say my little man has the very best personality and I'm lucky enough to call him mine :)
